  1. my dad always said, "walk it off!". he raised a strong girl - but it became a bad habit that was very hard for me to break.

i speak from experience... when my hips started to hurt, i pushed thru the pain. then i pulled a quad and pushed thru that. then i pulled flexors. then cramps in the bottom of my feet. then the calves... and it didn't just go down. from my shoulders to my toes - one muscle started compensating for another. and i never stopped running. then my entire body just said STOP and i could barely walk, let alone run.

the best advice i got way too late in the game and this applies to any level of athlete!! LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. don't push thru the pain. give your body time to heal. take days off. instead of running or walking or biking, if something hurts, spend a day doing strengthening exercises for the rest of the body and give that muscle time to heal.

try some core and back strengthening exercises on off days. that might help the back pain and it will make running a lot easier! :) core strengthening dropped my heart rate 10 beats per minute!!

you have a great goal! i'd hate to see yo not be able to run the race that day because you're in too much pain. take care of yourself! i wish i could run the riverbank with you, but we are "shroomin with the toomans" that weekend. :(
